Note discusses this was Max Reinhardt’s original promptbook, and she had lent it to theater director Ernst Haussermann (1916-1984), who premiered Reinhardt’s version of the play in Josefstadt on October 31, 1968, before taking it on tour after Christmas of that year. She notes that many of the handwritten markings within the promptbook are Haussermann's, and not Reinhardt’s.
