Gaylord Nelson (1916-2005) was a politician and environmentalist who served as a United States Senator and Governor. He was the original founder of Earth Day, a leading consumer advocate, a strong supporter of civil rights and civil liberties, and one of the earlier outspoken opponents of the Vietnam War. Nelson received his bachelor's degree in Political Science from San Jose State University and his LL.B. degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison.
