Dr. Gary Okihiro is an Asian American scholar and an author of twelve books. Okihiro was a professor of international and public affairs at Columbia University and the founding director of Columbia's Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race. He is the originator of "social formation theory" and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Asian American Studies and the American Studies Association. Dr. Okihiro currently is a visiting professor of American studies at Yale University.
