Dr. Todd Gitlin (1943-2022) was a sociologist, educator, political writer, novelist, cultural commentator, and author of sixteen books. He wrote about mass media, politics, intellectual life and the arts, for both popular and scholarly publications. He was a professor of Journalism and Sociology and chair of the Ph. D. program in Communications at Columbia University.
