Pike to Anna Wilcox Posted from the Washington Street Hospital, Alexandria, Virginia. This letter was enclosed in a 5.5” x 3.125” yellow/cream colored envelope, with cancelled three cent stamp in the upper right hand corner of the envelope; postmarked Aug 5 ‘64, ALEXANDRIA, VA. The postmark is incomplete, with a portion of the top torn away. The postmark is 1 3/16” in diameter and partly overlays the stamp. The stamp cancellation is very faint, consisting of [four concentric circles, the largest is 3/4” in diameter and the smallest is 3/16” in diameter], and was stamp partially off the envelope. Both the postmark and the cancellation are black ink. Addressed in black ink to: Miss Anna Wilcox Smyrna Shenango Co NY The envelope was opened by cutting the left side. The top of the envelope is torn away, with the upper left corner missing. Slight foxing along the edges. There is a tear running from the top, one-quarter inch to the left of the stamp, to within one-half inch of the bottom of the envelope. The envelope has staining/discoloration of unknown origin on both the back and front. Three pages. One 8” x 10” sheet folded to form four 5” x 8” pages. Written in black ink on blue lined stationery paper, page four appears to have been unlined. Embossed, in the upper right hand corners of pages one and three, with a seal in the shape of a cameo. Watermarked with six horizontal lines. The ink is slightly faded overall, very faded in spots. Moderate foxing, especially along the one vertical and two horizontal creases. There are two very small (<1/32”) holes where the two horizontal creases cross the single vertical crease. The vertical crease is also torn, approximately 3/8”, at these points. Pike to Anna Wilcox Washington Street Hospital, Alexandria, Virginia This letter was enclosed in a 5.25” x 2.875” white envelope, with a cancelled three cent stamp in the upper right corner; postmarked Oct 14 ’64, ALEXANDRIA, VA. The postmark is 1 3/16” in diameter and overlays the stamp. The postmark is missing most of the ‘64’ and some of the letters are smeared. The stamp cancellation also overlays the stamp and consists of four concentric circles, the largest is 3/4” in diameter and the smallest is 3/16” in diameter and is stamped partly off the envelope. The postmark and stamp cancellation are black ink. Addressed in black ink to: Miss Annie Wilcox Smyrna Shenango Co N.Y The envelope was opened by cutting the right side. Slight foxing along the edges and very slight foxing on the front face, the back face has moderately foxing. There is part of a black stamp cancellation in the upper left corner of the back, probably from the another letter. Four pages. One 8” x 10” sheet folded to form four 5” x 8” pages. Written in black ink on blue lined stationery paper, page four appears to have been unlined. Embossed, in the upper right hand corners of pages one and three, with a seal in the shape of a oval containing the word “PARIS” and surrounded by filigree. Watermarked with ten horizontal lines. Ink appears unfaded. Slight foxing, most evident along the single vertical crease and on page four. There are three creases: one vertical and two horizontal.
